About Britiande

Britiande is a small town of around 1,000 souls which lies about 2 kilometres from Lamego in the Viseu district of Northern Portugal. The best places to stay in Britiande are ideal for enjoying and exploring this wonderful region, whether you're here for the wine or the culture.

This is very much the heart of Portugal’s wine growing country - the ‘Duoro’. Wine tourism is de rigeur and all the fun that goes along with it.

But there are plenty of other things to see and do. Lamego (about 10 minutes away by car) is very historic, having been founded by the Visigoths in the 8th century, subject to Muslim/Christian conflicts later and then the original capital of the Port industry in the 18th century. The monuments remain, including numerous palaces, churches and civic buildings.

This is also a beautiful part of the country and a good destination for those who wish to walk, go on boat trips on the river or simply chill out.

What not to miss

  • Wine Tours - Enjoy instructional day trips around local vineyards, taste the produce and feast on a gourmet lunch.
  • Culture - Spend a day in Lamego, stroll around its historical centre, visit the Torre de Menagem, the Cathedral and the Muesum of Art and Archaeology....that's just for starters!
  • Carnival - Every year there is a spectacular Easter carnival at Lazarim, just 8km away.

Our pick of the best places to stay in Britiande get very busy during the peak summer months. So do yourself a favour and book well ahead.
