For the Album
Timos Tsoukalas
- The Perivolas Lifestyle Houses are a collection of 300 year old cave dwellings in Oia, arranged on a cliff-terrace, and now converted into 21 modern, luxurious apartment/villas, that overlook an idyllic infinity pool and the caldera. One of the things our Gurus love most about this property is the variety – some of the villas are large, with private pools and lush gardens, while others feature hot tubs, and vast vaulted ceilings. This is an adults only property, and all of the rooms are romantic and intimately laid out. There’s also shared gardens, a fancy spa, and a contemporary Greek restaurant, which isfor hotel guests only.

Grace also has luxurious spa, and an excellent Mediterranean restaurant. Truly romantic and very luxurious.
- Santorini Secret Suites & Spa is a collection of 17 suites, created from traditional Cycladic cave architecture on the cliffs of Oia. Inside the traditional style gives way to a variety of more contemporary looks, still largely monochrome, but with more art, furniture and facilities than you’ll find in the majority of rooms in Santorini, and each suite has its own private plunge pool or hot tub. Plus there’s a hotel infinity pool, and a gourmet Greek restaurant. Adults only.

- Imerovigli’s Chromata has the kind of infinity pool you could spend an entire holiday wondering at, but don’t let yourself get too distracted by the spectacular caldera views, because it’s pretty stunning inside too. Converted from historic cliff-cave dwellings, Chromata’s 25 rooms and suites offer white-on-white minimalism at its finest, with plenty of natural light from large windows, which also frame the view. The restaurant is pool-side, making the most of the views again, and serves excellent Mediterranean cuisine. Perfect for a honeymoon.
- Sun Rocks is a gorgeous white-on-white dream of a hotel in Thira, overlooking the spectacular caldera from numerous terraces and balconies, and from the restaurant and pool deck. Its 18 rooms and suites have stylishly minimal décor, but plenty of luxurious details and incredible views – most are extremely romantic, but if it’s a special occasion go for the honeymoon suite, which has an indoor hot tub overlooking the water. - Imerovigli’s Avaton Resort & Spa is an imitate pick, with just nine rooms and two suites, but it has the facilities of a much larger hotel — with fewer people to share them with. For starters there’s the gorgeous infinity pool with caldera views, plus the all the mod cons in the rooms, an indulgent spa-with-a-view, complete with a steam cavern and a hydrotherapy pool, and an innovative Greek restaurant. Most rooms have a private balcony or terrace, and the two suites have private hot tubs too.
- 1864 The Sea Captain's House is a small hotel in the old town of Oia, offering just four chic suites. The scale of these rooms is larger than your Santorini average, and they feature four-poster beds, double height ceilings, and antiques. They also all have private terraces with ocean views and lots of space. There’s no pool or restaurant, but they do offer breakfast, and other meals on arrangement, and perfect beaches lie just below you.
- Aigialos is a wonderfully romantic collection of 16 clifftop villas converted from a community of neoclassical houses once owned by the head of the island’s navy. Each villa has a private balcony and elegant furnishings, and they share a gourmet Mediterranean restaurant, and an elegant pool with a hot tub. - The Villa Bordeaux is a seriously luxurious and uniquely stunning four room hotel on the lower slopes of Thira, with nothing between it and the caldera but cliffs. The façade is more mainland Greece than the majority of properties on Santorini, with arches and pillars as well as vaulted ceilings and smooth, white walls, and there’s a large pool on a pool terrace plus several smaller plunge pools and hot tubs. The décor is contemporary, and minimalist, making the most of the architecture and the views. The bar and gourmet French restaurant are top notch, and considered one of the best on Santorini.

- Istoria is a stylishly contemporary pick on Perivolos Beach, with a stripped back look that will please minimalists, and anyone who appreciates gorgeous natural materials and stunning views. The 12 rooms and suites reference the traditional, cave-built style, but here on the flat, surrounded by palm trees, there’s more opportunity for space and windows. They’ve also got a show-stopping pool with a swim-up bar, and a sumptuous spa. Perivolos Beach is a volcanic beach, with black sand, on the opposite side of the island from many of the key tourist spots, and the caldera views, but there are plenty of advantages, including the peace!
- At the Pegasus Suites & Spa guests are treated to their own private hot tub, or private terrace, or both — all with incredible caldera views. The hotel’s gourmet restaurant overlooks the caldera as well, with the wonderful ‘sugar cube’ architecture of Imerovigli in the foreground. Inside, the rooms offer smart white simplicity in typical Cycladic style. And there’s a wonderful spa, complete with hammam, sauna and a range of treatments. This is definitely the kind of hotel you don’t need, or want, to leave.

- Aria Lito Mansion is an elegant villa hotel, in the Mediterranean style, complete with salmon coloured exterior, and a vast cypress tree on the pool terrace. Before becoming a 16 room hotel it was a private mansion, and retains graceful, luxurious features; each of the rooms and suites have been cleverly designed to include all the mod cons and chic, contemporary hotel-style decor. If you need a touch more luxury you can arrange an in-room massage or wine tasting. They serve breakfast, but guests will need to take other meals elsewhere — which is easy, considering the Aria Lito is on Thira’s main street.
