Ginza is one of Tokyo’s most famous and glamorous districts: the place where coffee comes at circa £10 a cup and you can find all the major high-end brands vying for your attention, in amongst the art galleries, restaurants and night clubs. If you Big Love fashion or design, then the best hotels in Ginza are probably for you.
Ginza is polished and luxurious, to the extent that they close several of the major thoroughfares to traffic every afternoon so that people can shop at their most relaxed. The department stores here are gargantuan, 12 floors is nothing special, and there are enough food and drink establishments to satisfy those shoppers and their heavy wallets. It’s also a great place for karaoke, if that’s something you want to try - when in Tokyo and all that… As well as shopping and eating, Ginza is just a short walk from the Tsukiji Markets, which are one of Tokyo’s absolutely unmissable experiences.
Ginza is also where you’ll find the Kabukiza Theatre, one of Japan’s premiere kabuki theatres, the Police Museum, the Advertising Museum, the rather beautiful Namiyoke-jinja - sandwiched in amongst temples to commerce, numerous art galleries semi-hidden down the narrow alleyways and some really rather beautiful old cinemas.
The Four Seasons Marunouchi Tokyo is a sophisticated five star hotel with just 57 rooms. The location is perfect, as are the views - though floor to ceiling windows - and the elegant French restaurant. You’re in Giza, but also close to the Tsukiji fish market and the Imperial Palace Gardens.
The Peninsula Tokyo is a luxurious 314 room property in a superb location in the heart of Tokyo. The decor mixes Japanese and contemporary style, the views are phenomenal and the restaurants and spa do the rest of the hotel justice.
The 875 room Imperial Hotel is one of Tokyo’s most historic. It’s big, but the rooms are generous for Tokyo standards, with floor to celling windows and luxurious bathrooms. The advantage of a large hotel is that there’s a choice of restaurants and bars. And the Imperial also has an excellent spa.
