Found on a street of stately mansions in the historic neighbourhood of Neve Tzedek, The Levee’s own immaculately restored exterior suggests traditional tastes. Inside, however, it’s a modernist dream. Each of the eight apartments are beautifully designed, with industrial concrete walls and a calming neutral colour palette. Small touches encourage guests to feel at home, from the fresh flowers that greet you to a kitchen already stocked with a Nespresso machine and organic olive oil. Each apartment has its own character, too: apartment seven boasts spectacular floor-to-ceiling windows while the duplex penthouse offers a sprawling sun terrace. Add to that the helpful attentions of a concierge service and these apartments aren’t just a home away from home – they’re providing something even better.

Why do people love staying in your hotel? The Levee offers guests a home-away-from-home experience for those looking for space and comfort which cannot be found in traditional hotels. What is there to do in the area? The Levee is situated in the famous Neve Tzedek neighbourhood which has a main street (Shabazi Street) lined with boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants. The Levee is a 15 minute walk to the beach, 10 minute walk to the Carmel market and 20 minutes walking to the ancient town of Jaffa. What kind of breakfast do you offer? As The Levee does not have a restaurant, but all guests are offered a complimentary breakfast at the Herzl 16 bar/restaurant, situated next door. The Levee will also be happy to arrange a private chef (at an additional cost) to come to the apartment and cook/serve any meal desired. Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Apart from breakfast at Herzl 16 and the option to provide guests with a private chef, The Levee does not offer any other meals. Good restaurants to eat out locally include Pronto, Hotel Montefiore, CoffeeBar, TYO, Taizu and North Abraxus. Which are your most popular room types, and why? The ground floor garden apartments are popular with families for the extra outside space, and for couples, the smaller first floor apartments are popular for the lavish furnishings and exposed walls bursting with character. What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? Extra beds/cots for babies can be arranged, and the smaller bedrooms have adjoined dressing rooms featuring pull-out beds for nannies. What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? The Levee features an on-site concierge, turndown service, and other elements of a hotel, but with the space and feel of a private home.
The meticulous renovation from Bar Orian Architects sees original concrete details exposed – intended to evoke the Japanese wabi-sabi notion, in which beauty is found in austere imperfection.
