Hotel Review
The Tree of Life properties are well known across India to offer small personable hotels with contemporary design, indulgent spas and spectacular cuisine; the Varanasi addition certainly does not disappoint. Lying low on the outskirts of a village this, at first, unassuming property surprises at every turn. From the bold 'yantra' design on the ceiling of the lobby to the near risqué artworks of Shiva and Parvati that are emblazoned above the beds. The rooms are spacious beyond necessity and all offer private terraces and indulgent bathrooms with rain showers and gold leaf-shaped sinks. The style is contemporary with polished concrete, geometric patterns, sharp lines and heavy teak-wood furniture. The offerings are thought out with not a plastic bottle in sight, real filter coffee and a choice selection of teas. The restaurant is an attraction in itself with the polished cement ceiling adorned with cloud-like gold leaf and an enormous stained-glass window depicting Hindu mythology. Don't expect to find the usual long menus of luxury hotels here. The chef gives a short choice of either continental or local dishes made using produce from the surrounding villages and it is utterly delectable. The spa is the icing on this particularly appealing cake and that's before mentioning the attentive service and benefits of this quiet locality. We highly recommend this as a real treat to return to after a day spent in Varanasi.
