About Colorado Springs

Once a frontier town, Colorado Springs grew popular with travellers looking to soak up the region’s warm weather, beautiful natural springs and spectacular landscapes. Accommodation options vary from cosy B&Bs to lavish resorts, with something to suit all tastes and budgets. Some of the best places to stay in Colorado Springs are close to the town centre, but many of our favourites are scattered in more secluded spots — perfect for discovering the area's striking scenery.

Originally founded in 1860, Old Colorado City is slightly to the west of modern-day Colorado Springs. Base yourself in this area or in nearby Manitou Springs for a real sense of history — and proximity to some of the area’s most impressive sights. There are quirky boutiques and bistros here, too. Stay in Colorado Springs’ city centre for the best chance of on-foot explorations, lively nightlife and a plethora of eateries. Visit the US Air Force Academy Museum, the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum and the Cornerstone Arts Centre if you can! South of the city, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is particularly popular with families.

Colorado’s big draw, of course, is its superb red sandstone landscape. Venture to the Garden of the Gods, with its tall, narrow spires, hike up 14,110ft Pikes Peak, or peer into ancient cliff dwellings in Manitou Springs before hitting the mineral springs which made this area famous. The Cave of the Winds is well worth visiting, too. There are myriad walking trails, mountain biking, off-roading and horse riding opportunities, as well as golf, tennis and rejuvenating spas to enjoy.

The best places to stay in Colorado Springs fill up fast during the summer months — pack your walking shoes and book your trip well in advance to avoid missing out!
