This handsome Georgian Grade II listed hotel stands in a prominent position in Chichester within strolling distance to the town centre. A warm and friendly reception awaits guests as they enter the impressive hallway with its sweeping 18th century Adam staircase. Until recently it was known as The Ship, named in connection to the former owner Vice-Admiral Sir George Murray, a great comrade of Admiral Nelson who was personally requested to be captain of the fleet in 1803. Now called the Harbour Hotel (albeit nowhere near water), it’s currently undergoing a makeover to mirror its sister hotel in Brighton and in keeping with the oceanic theme, there’s a sleek pared down Jetty Restaurant with an emphasis on fish dishes. There are plans afoot for a spa so guests, when not enjoying the luxury of their well-appointed rooms, can get pampered on site.
