Situated on the edge of the village of Ganahera, a stone’s throw from Pushkar, this is an idyllic alternative to staying in the town. The 15 bottle-green tents are dispersed along sandy pathways, surrounded by Indian gooseberry and mango trees. They’re unrestrainedly sumptuous, with canvas ceilings covered in gold stars, air-conditioning, heaters, torches, earplugs and bells to call a butler. Bathrooms have back-pummelling showers, sparkling white-tiled floors and Biotique shower gel and shampoo. In the evening, you’ll find your bed turned down, electric blanket switched on and a vibrant dressing gown and slippers at the ready. Each tent also has its own carom or ludo set, a winner with the children – and there’s plenty more to keep the kids entertained, from drum classes, table tennis and archery to bicycling and camel rides. Delicious local specialities (vegetarian only) are served in a circular tent decorated with floral patterns and traditional Rajasthani puppets. In the evenings, there’s often a BBQ, so you can sit by a woodburner on the lawn, feasting on sizzling onion-and-pepper skewers or paneer-and-spinach kebabs under the night sky.
