In a city whose history has been largely razored by developers, The Pottinger opened in 2014 and places culture and heritage at the heart of its offering. Located on one of the Hong Kong’s first stone cobbled pedestrian-only streets, the hotel entrance is charming, low-key, and feels almost secret – while the commercial bustle of Central is just a street corner away. This juxtaposition is reflected in the European-meets-Chinoiserie décor, with rooms tastefully dressed with hand-painted silk wallpaper, latticework, jade pendants, and tea sets. Walls throughout the hotel are replete with a remarkable series of black and white images of 1950s Hong Kong street scenes by Chinese photographer Fan Ho – some sights of which remain unchanged.
