For the Album

The Pitcher Inn

  • The Pitcher Inn is a charming Civil War era inn in the picturesque village of Warren, close to the Mad River Valley, which is a nature lover’s paradise. Its 11 rooms have a surprising amount going on — they’re not only all individually decorated, some of them are very uniquely decorated, with, for example, beds made from sleds and paper birch trees, huge murals, or vast fireplaces — and they’re differentiated by theme. Guests receive complimentary access to a pool, spa and gym, and the restaurant, 275 Main, is a Relais & Châteaux fine dining pick, with a sophisticated farm-to-fork menu.

For a Special Occasion

Twin Farms

  • Secluded amid 300 acres of wonderful wilderness, luxurious Twin Farms is a real treat, with charming antiques and gorgeous décor, a gourmet restaurant, impressive spa and gym, tennis courts, croquet lawns, and a seriously impressive wine cellar.

For a Rural Retreat

Barrows House

  • Barrows House is a collection of 28 rooms and suites spread through eight low-rise buildings, set in six acres of lush gardens in the heart of the Green Mountain National Forest. The atmosphere is cosy and chic, with traditional-feeling décor in a range of colours and features, and if you’re hoping for four-poster beds and large, luxurious bathrooms you’re in luck! Proximity to ski fields, horse racing, golf courses and fly fishing mean Barrows House is popular year round, and within its six lush garden acres it’s got pools and tennis courts.
  • The Phineas Swann Inn is a nine room B&B that’s been converted from a picture perfect historic home on the Trout River. With warm country charm and rural views, this is a welcoming, homely pick – the Gurus love the homemade breakfast and snacks, fireplaces, jetted bath tubs, and the outdoor hot tub in its pretty deck. Beyond the main house there are two self-catering options in the grounds

For Foodies

The Essex

  • The Inn at Weathersfield is a charmingly traditional, white clapboard inn with mature gardens, 21 acres of grounds, and a fantastic farm-to-fork restaurant. Its 12 rooms are cosily decorated, with open fireplaces, antiques and clawfoot tubs. The restaurant has a cooking school, and a chef’s table, so it’s a really good choice for foodies, as well as for couples seeking a rural escape.
  • The Essex is one of the largest properties on this list, it’s a resort with 120 rooms, and 18 leafy acres featuring two pools, hot tubs, a golf course, tennis courts and an impressive spa. The Essex is partnered with the New England Culinary Institute, which has its own kitchen garden in the grounds, so the food will doubly impress. Suites come with self-catering facilities if you want to try your hand reconstructing something from the culinary classes or workshops they offer onsite.

For Historic Charms

Willard Street Inn

  • Burlington’s Willard Street Inn has been converted from a well proportioned 19th century mansion surrounded by vast gardens. Its 16 B&B rooms are spread over three floors, and feature original wood floors, and stone fireplaces, antique furniture and period style fabrics and finishes. There’s also a charming sitting room and lounge, and a conservatory where hearty hot breakfasts are served.

For an Intimate Escape

Kedron Valley

  • The Kedron Valley Inn is a spacious and traditional colonial era inn in South Woodstock, with 14 elegant rooms, an Italian restaurant, 11 acres of beautiful gardens, and a chic wine bar. The location has something to offer all year round, and while there’s nothing show-stopping about the Kedron Valley Inn, its understated charms, comfort and facilities make it a super choice.
  • The Inn on Putney Road has been converted from a distinguished colonial mansion minutes from the centre of Brattleboro. It has just six rooms and suites, all charmingly decorated, well arranged and well lit, plus lovely common areas, an award-winning perennial garden, and elegant living spaces. There’s no restaurant, but there are a number of excellent picks within a pleasant stroll, and they offer an impressive three course breakfast.

For an Active Break

The Green Mountain Inn

  • The Green Mountain Inn is an historic inn in the heart of Stowe, with rooms, suites, self-catering apartments and whole townhouses available for guests. With this many rooms and suites there’s plenty of variety when it comes to décor, but you can expect traditionally plush fabrics and furnishings, and luxurious features. As well as indoor charms, the Green Mountain Inn also has a leafy garden, and outdoor pool. And a ski shuttle for the winter season.

Charming Inns

Reluctant Panther Inn

  • Rabbit Hill Inn is a sumptuous B&B hideaway, perfect for a romantic weekend. • Lilac Inn is a large and elegant mansion, turned nine room inn, surrounded by landscaped gardens complete with fountains and ornamental ponds. Inside there’s a certain level of ornamentation too, with patterned fabrics, interesting antiques, and a hope chest or two. The atmosphere is welcoming and cosy. The restaurant is run by a well-known chef, which gives it a bit of extra buzz.
  • The Reluctant Panther Inn is a white clap-board inn surrounded by manicured gardens, close to Manchester Village.
