Coming Soon - A New Hotel Opening in the Cotswolds
The fourth in the stable of excellent hotels headed by Calcot Manor is worth adding to your selection of weekend breaks.
Called The Painswick (thepainswick.co.uk) after the Cotswold village in which it is located, it joins its siblings Calcot Manor and Barnsley House, both also in the Cotswolds, and the Lord Crewe Arms in Northumberland.
The fine 18th century stone mansion has been sympathetically and elegantly restored. I hope so, anyway; called Cotswold 88, it was previously one of the most idiosyncratic and wacky hotels, with an extraordinarily flamboyant owner, that I have ever stayed in. Under new ownership, expect calm, stylish contemporary luxury and a welcome new address for weekend getaways.
