“Originally built in 1908, this impressive art nouveau building opened as a small hotel in 2017, offering sleek contemporary interiors and ultra-friendly staff.”

Hotel review

Impossible to miss with its rounded corner façade, the 1908 Lisboa Hotel is a real haven of warmth on Lisbon’s cobbled streets. Its immaculately restored Art Nouveau exteriors open up to inviting interiors by Atelier Maldonado which brim with a sense of place, from the original floor tiles to murals by Lisbon street artists and art installations by Bordalo II. The latter, which hang in the main reception and the Bar are of a beetle and a dragonfly and were created from materials found on site during the restoration of the building.

The restaurant, Infame, offers dishes which depart from the normal Lisbon fare, weaving in Asian ingredients to give a twist to traditional Portuguese recipes. Try the No Isco (fresh fish, oriental broth, seaweed, salicornia, mushrooms and rice with lemon and coriander) or the steak tartare with wasabi aioli. At the bar which runs along the front of the hotel, seasonal cocktails are worth stopping for.

The 35 rooms are clean-lined with minimalist décor and lovely views out over the capital’s red roofs. If you want to indulge, book the King of the Dome duplex suite with its luxurious bathroom with free standing tub and separate rain shower.

A welcome massage is available on request.
