“Situated in the town's old quarter this haveli is quintessential Rajasthani: white walls, stained glass windows, intricate lattice work & ornate arches. Bedrooms are jam packed with decorative tiles and fabrics plus antique furniture. There is a huge terrace right on the lake and small pool. Lovely.”

Hotel review

When staying in Udaipur it really is all about location location location. And unless you’ve got very deep pockets, the best hotel right on the lake is Amet Haveli.

This is a stunning 300 year old property that was originally built as an evening leisure palace for the Maharanas. It now contains twenty two rooms and suites, most of which have stunning lake views (we’d urge you to book one of these — you can watch the boats chugging past and almost feel that you’re floating on Lake Pichola too). All are decorated with classic old world charm to reflect the history of the building, and all are very spacious with huge comfortable beds, antique style furnishings, marble floors, plenty of period detail and modern bathrooms with monsoon rain showers. There’s also a charming courtyard garden with small swimming pool (beware…it’s very cold)  and a handful of loungers which feels very private.

For some the icing on the cake here is the lakeside restaurant, which attracts plenty of diners not staying at the hotel. The view is simply stunning and the food’s pretty good too!

Amet Haveli is the perfect pick for anyone wanting pride of position in Udaipur without having to pay the five star room prices of the swankier lakeside abodes.
