Hotel Review
This is a truly fabulous hotel. If you are lucky enough to stay here you will be utterly seduced and in for a very serious treat. The experience starts the moment you embark on the steepwinding mountain road out of the Trento valley, eventually popping up through the fir trees and out of the clouds into an Alpine dream of meadows, cowbells, chalets, geraniums, churches and not-so-distant peaks.
“Luxury hideaway retreat” does not adequately describethe Berghoferin. It is all these things and more. Elegant, sophisticated and über stylish. The family owners are impeccably mannered, impeccably dressed, impeccably informed and nothing is too much trouble, they skilfully manage to combine absolute discretion for their many high-profile guests, as well as offering a very personal (but not cloying) level of service.
The hotel interior is stunningly curated – every small detail has been carefully considered. Modern Italian lighting shines alongside 19th century chandeliers, gloriously patterned fabrics and wallpapers are elegantly mixed and matched, there are beautiful books in all languages, and ‘venues’ a plenty.
Dine at a cosy table for two in the bar or library, party in the traditional stubli, enjoy an after-dinner drink by the open fire, breakfast in the sunroom beneath two massive ecclesiastical candelabra or just sit out and marvel at the view from the panoramic terrace.
Texture, colour, form and function are blended inside and out in perfect harmony. The individual colour-themed suites are blissful, with natural Swiss pine panelling and flooring, some with integrated saunas, each with its own little terrace, and others with wonderful two-tier upholstered window seats where you can lie and gaze out across the valley to the Alps, or up to the Dolomites behind - and plan your mountain hikes!
The solar-heated swimming pool is charmingly retro with wooden decking and stripy beach balls and brollies. You also have the full gamut of hot rooms, steam rooms, spa facilities and sauna in which to rest and recuperate. Food and drink are top notch as is the service – the wine in particular is selected expertly and inventively from the immediate region. You will be tempted each night with an aperitif accompanied by unusual and delicious canapes. And as is traditional in the autonomous region of Bolzano there is aprivate chapel in the grounds in which to say your prayers – or perhaps get married as this is definitely a hotel for romance.

What is there to do in the area? Redagno is a small Alpine hamlet in South Tyrol, part of the municipality of Aldino. It is surrounded by the Fiemme Mountains in the western Dolomites and separated from the rest of the municipality by the Geoparc Bletterbach gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Located 1,500 meters above sea level, Redagno is a peaceful summer retreat that has retained its original charm. With a tiny church on a hill, a village school, scattered farms, and no shops or restaurants, Redagno is a charming hiking haven and a true reflection of rural life, offering a tranquil refuge for those seeking a break from the fast pace of life. It is a perfect insider's tip for travelers seeking a unique, authentic experience away from the crowds.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? At the Gastrothèque Alpine, lunch is served Monday through Friday out on the terrace and on the patio. The menu comprises a fine selection of both small and big lunch options to suit your appetite—from innovatively interpreted traditional dishes and locally adapted international classics to sophisticated seasonal creations. Guests can also choose from a comprehensive wine and drinks menu that focuses on local products and specialities.
The Fine Dining Die Saligen combines haute cuisine, fine wines, excellent service, and a special interior design. In a refined and elegant atmosphere, the restaurant serves dinner (and lunch as well on weekends) with a strong commitment to raising awareness about the products and optimum processing methods. The dishes prepared in our kitchen are mostly seasonal and regionally sourced, freshly made, locally inspired, and innovatively adapted. A comprehensive wine list and, upon request, a wine pairing selected to match your personal taste, highly discreet and attentive waiting staff, and the special atmosphere of the different restaurant areas available to our guests—from the dining hall, patio, and terrace to the Gothic parlour—complete the culinary fine-dining experience at the Saligen.
