Situated on the impressive Great Pulteney Street, Dukes Hotel is a short – and flat – walk from the centre of Bath. The exterior of the townhouses and the decorative and pretty interiors epitomise Georgian Bath, making it a great base from which to explore the city. The 17 attractive rooms are named after different dukes and much of the art on the walls reflects this, with large portraits on the staircases, alongside framed prints of coats of arms. The bedrooms are all different, ranging from the cheapest rooms (small top-floor doubles) to the largest (suites with four-poster beds) with plenty of options in between. A very good breakfast, with everything from kippers to pancakes, is served by friendly staff, who are keen to make suggestions about what to do nearby. The breakfast room and a small garden are reached by a flight of stairs and, with no lift, this makes Dukes a less accessible accommodation option. Guests can eat at Dukes’ sister hotel nearby which has a restaurant, as well as parking (at an extra cost).
