This four star bolthole in downtown Lisbon might have 66 rooms, but it feels more like a boutique hotel and your digs are notably bigger than you might find elsewhere in the area. The emerald green façade dotted with Juliet balconies lights up the buzzy street, and the view from the inside out is great, too: incredible vistas take in the terracotta roofs stretching down to the sparkling Tagus river. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and rather quiet, considering their super-central location amidst Lisbon’s pumping nightlife. Contemporary, muted colourways, a spoiling breakfast and powerful rain showers with numerous settings do much to soothe the Ginghina hangover. When you’ve slept off the night before's party, a smiley concierge is happy to bring you back to life with excellent suggestions of cafes, bars and prized pastel de nata spots. This location is excellent for walking to dozens of Lisbon’s must-see areas, so pack comfortable trainers to conquer the city’s seven hills. If you don’t feel like going far, Sebastião Restaurant & Bar downstairs makes a point of proffering proper Portuguese fare, served in a stunning vaulted room under those iconic pombaline arches the city is famed for. Hotel da Baixa provides a lovely base from which to step out and soak up the culture of this whimsical city.
