Situated in an historic building, a couple of streets from Thessaloniki’s beautiful seafront, The Excelsior seamlessly combines tradition with modern style. The interior retains many of its original Art Deco features including decorative plasterwork and grand staircases, while bedrooms and suites are kitted out with all mod cons. Rooms are spacious and light with floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies, while shutters successfully block out the hustle and bustle of the streets below. In fact, despite the hotel’s superb central location, the hotel offers an oasis of calm, making it ideal for city breaks any time of year. Cheerful staff are on hand to help throughout a stay, offering cold water and coffee on arrival and advice throughout. Now run by a Greek hotel group, the hotel retains a personal touch; local wine awaits guests in the bedroom, as do chocolates and ‘bedtime stories’ each evening. Family portraits of the founders, the Tornivoukas family, hang on the walls of the stylish mezzanine restaurant.
