Hotel Review
Trigony House Hotel was once the shooting and fishing lodge for Closeburn Castle, and as such is wonderfully located to enjoy all the outdoor activities that are on the doorstep. The current owners have had their hands on the place for over 10 years now and their efforts can be seen in every aspect of the property. Rooms are quietly understated, yet nothing has been omitted: beds are handsprung, linens the finest Egyptian cotton, and butler's trays come supplied with home made shortbread and real coffee. The same attention to detail has been lavished on the food. Here the emphasis is on excellent ingredients cooked simply. Produce is locally sourced and there is an organic garden which supplies most of the vegetables and salad. Trigony is a wonderful place for a country escape: blow away the cobwebs exploring the surrounding countryside, then come back and put your feet up in front of a roaring log fire.

Why do people love staying in your hotel?
The relaxed informal atmosphere, local friendly staff, beautiful surroundings, the informal gardens, and one of the biggest reasons guests tell us that they return over & over again is our rustic award wining food.
What is there to do in the area?
Fantastic walking - we have guides of local walks & walks over the whole of Dumfries and Galloway, from the dramatic Cliff top paths of the Solway coast to the rolling hills of the southern uplands (Trigony is well positioned in-between the two). Drumlanrig Castle, art collection, gardens & estate are only two miles away. To the North we have Dumfries House Prince Charles’s Restoration Project, now complete and open to the public. To the South Caerlaverock Castle the most complete Medieval Castle in Europe, and to the west in Castle Douglas The National Trust Gardens at Threave Castle.
What kind of breakfast do you offer?
We have won several awards for our food and particularly the breakfasts. We make our own granola, bread, jams & marmalades, and serve the old country house speciality of kedgeree, using our own mix of spices. We source the sausages, bacon haggis & black pudding locally too.
Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?
We have a great reputation for food and it is one of the main reasons that our clients tell us they return time after time. The style of the food is quite rustic with some middle eastern & Asian influences.
Which are your most popular room types, and why?
Our most popular room is the Garden suite. It is our only ground floor room, with a heated conservatory & private garden. The 4 superior rooms are probably the next most popular. Most of the rooms have garden views.
What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers?
Trigony is a personally run country house hotel with a relaxed & informal atmosphere with high levels of customer service. More than anything we love to make sure that all our guests get the most out of their stay with us, whether they just want to relax in the gardens or in front of the fire in the lounge or bar, or explore further afield. We regularly organise activities for our guests from Trout fishing on local Lochs & Salmon Fishing on the river Nith to Land Rover Safaris around the local estates, Mountain bike trails in the surrounding countryside or Falconry in the Hotel grounds.
