“A stunning converted monastery set amidst lovely gardens. Gorgeous airy rooms with high ceilings, sash windows and wonderful views. The bathrooms are equally spacious and some boast free standing baths. All this plus a gourmet restaurant and a chilled bar. Beware though - no lifts!”

Hotel review

This converted monastery is a charming hotel on the lakeside in the stunning village of Talloires. Being at the end of the small road that runs down to the lake from the centre of the village, there are no roads or traffic noise nearby, which makes for a quiet and relaxing stay. In the summer months, meals are served outdoors in the charming garden overlooking the lake, and there's a chilled courtyard bar.

Given the historic nature of the building, don't expect 5-star luxury., but wooden beams and historic furnishings and wood panelling give it heaps of character. Service is exemplary in the superb gastronomic restaurant. Upstairs, many of the standard lakeside rooms, while having spectacular views, are quite small and narrow. For the best rooms with the largest windows, choose the ground or first floors. Besides which, there is no elevator, so you may want to avoid climbing higher! There are a couple of suites with larger rooms - the corner suite is particularly special, with three windows. Rooms with garden or courtyard views, however, are also lovely. On the third floor there is a small spa with a whirlpool, sauna and hammam under the eaves.
