Cogne is a charming, traditional looking village right on the edge of the Gran Paradiso National Park, and its massif backdrop is jaw-dropping. Cogne is the largest centre in the Aosta Valley skiable area, and this means great facilities. Travel Information

• Cogne’s closest international airports are: Turin Airport, which is about an hour and a half away by road, or about five and a half hours by public transport; Geneva Airport, which is about two hours away by road, or five hours away by public transport and Milan Malpensa, which is about two and a quarter hours away by road, or four hours by public transport. Cogne and the Aosta Valley are very easy to get to by train, via Paris, Lyon, Geneva, Turin or Basel etc., and there are plenty of options overland.

• If you’re coming to ski, the Aosta Valley ski season runs between about mid-December until about mid-April. The rule usually holds that the higher up resorts are the most snow sure. Cogne can get hot in summer, though, with average temperatures in the middle of summer edging towards 30°C, so if you’re here to hike, or mountain bike, most people plan for the late spring and early summer, when there’s a charming dust of snow on the peaks, but temperate, sunny conditions below.
