About Cogne
Cogne is a charming, traditional looking village right on the edge of the Gran Paradiso National Park, and its massif backdrop is jaw-dropping. At 1,534 metres above sea level Cogne has a long and reliable ski season too, so if you’re looking for a spectacular spot to go skiing you’ve found it. The best places to stay in Cogne are much loved by cross-country skiers — who can enjoy more than 70kms worth of runs, some of them illuminated come late afternoon — and ice climbers, mountaineers and trekkers, and are busy with explorers all year. Here, our Gurus seem to favour traditionally beautifully accommodation, which makes the most of the incredible views, and they recommend some seriously romantic picks, as well as a small, family-friendly alpine chalet.
Cogne is the largest centre in the Aosta Valley skiable area, and this means great facilities. Some of the best places to stay in Cogne offer features like Michelin stars, spas complete with an ice cave, and even a Roman tempidarium. So our Gurus often recommend the hotels here to skiers looking for great views and great spa facilities. The ski area runs up to 2,297 metres — so it’s got some exceptional downhill runs — and there are four lifts to access it. The nursery slope has a magic carpet lift, and, for kids there’s a mini snow park, with inflatables and a tubing run.
Cogne centres around a beautiful alpine meadow, the Sant’Orso, which is used for sleigh rides when it’s white rather than green, and is surrounded by forests and the national park, which means it's a wonderful spot for meeting the local flora and fauna, including mountain goats and ibex, and a rainbow of coloured flowers.
However, it's a busy place in the peak winter and summer seasons! So if you want to guarantee a room in one of the best places to stay in Cogne during these periods, get organised and book well ahead.

Our Gurus recommend you ask for one of the rooms with the copper baths, they’re an unexpected luxury.
For Romance
- The Hotel Miramonti is a beautiful spa hotel, offering all the accoutrements of traditional luxury: draped four-poster beds, gilt furnishings, marble bathrooms, open fireplaces and plenty of velvet. - If you’re coming to ski, the Aosta Valley ski season runs between about mid-December until about mid-April. The rule usually holds that the higher up resorts are the most snow sure. Cogne can get hot in summer, though, with average temperatures in the middle of summer edging towards 30°C, so if you’re here to hike, or mountain bike, most people plan for the late spring and early summer, when there’s a charming dust of snow on the peaks, but temperate, sunny conditions below.
