Coombeshead Farm

Situated within 66 acres of meadows and woodland, Coombeshead Farm is one of the new breed of nature-orientated farm stays that offers comfort, seclusion and field to fork food in a rural idyll. Founded by chef and author Tom Adams of Pitt Cue Co, the focus is on creating a self-sufficient haven so there are chickens, lambs, delightful curly-haired pigs and bees alongside a kitchen garden. A bakery and shop on site sells sheepskins, honeycomb, vinegar, pickles and other delicacies. The carefully considered daily three-course set dinner menu can be adapted in advance to suit all dietary requirements (including vegans and vegetarians). Food is innovative and beautifully put together. Preserved beetroots, cabbage crisps, baked squash and homemade quince ice cream with jostaberry compote were all delicious. For breakfast, guests are offered Coombeshead’s signature sourdough bread and sticky malt loaf (available to buy and take home) with whipped farmhouse butter, brioche and granola with fresh yoghurt and juicy jams. Rustic chic rooms - in the main house or Grain Store - are sumptuously sized with generous en suite bathrooms, some featuring deep bath tubs and walk-in showers, and have the charm of a French or Italian interior - muted shades, painted antique furniture and plump seating. Small vases of wildflowers in the bedrooms with coffee, loose leaf tea and homemade biscuits are all available for guests. There are no TVs or mobile signal so a place to properly unwind and relax. Guests can use the farmhouse sitting room where there’s a fire and pre or post-dinner board games.

Why do people love staying with you ? We are lucky enough to benefit from a lot of repeat custom. Guests like the atmosphere, setting and our aim to be a real Cornish 'agritourismo'.

What is there to do in the area? We are placed halfway between Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor for keen hikers. Both the North and South Coast paths are accessible within 35 minutes and all of the staff can recommend excellent places to stop to eat, or pick up provisions, en route.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? We offer a hot and cold breakfast spread. Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We offer dinner Thursday to Sunday in low season and Wednesday to Sunday in high season. We run a Sunday lunch service all year round.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? Each of our rooms is a little different. Some people like the cosy farmhouse rooms, some prefer the more spacious Grain Store rooms with bathtubs.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ? Unfortunately the farmhouse and Grain Store rooms aren't suitable for children under 12 years old. We do accept children of all ages in our on site self catering cottage, which you can book through the 'self catering' tab on our website. Children are very welcome indeed in the dining room at lunch and dinner, but not at breakfast.
