About Nevis

Smaller and more tranquil than neighbouring St Kitts, Nevis is a 36-square-mile gem, with picturesque beaches and calm seas surrounding a verdant, mountainous interior. Much-loved by laid-back couples and adventurous families alike, the island is a charming base for a Caribbean getaway. Accommodation options include everything from intimate hillside hideaways to glamorous beachfront resorts, fit for a whole host of tastes and budgets. Whilst many of the best places to stay on Nevis are set right on the sand, some of our favourite properties are tucked away on the slopes of majestic Nevis Peak, offering amazing views.

The oldest British colony in the Caribbean, Nevis has heaps of history. Amble around Charlestown to spot well-preserved heritage architecture and to visit the Museum of Nevis History, the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton. The Botanical Gardens of Nevis, just inland, are gorgeous and well worth a wander. For a further insight into Nevis’ past, head to New River Estate or see the ruins of Cottle Church and Montpelier House, where Horatio Nelson married Fanny Nisbet. The Horatio Nelson Museum is also intriguing.

Adventurers will delight in hiking up Nevis Peak for expansive vistas, or in following walking and cycling trails past the old ruins and abandoned roads which criss cross the interior. You’ll also see Nevis’ famous hummingbirds flitting amidst the bougainvillea and hibiscus. The island’s spectacular beaches are brilliant for sunbathing and sandcastles, and calm seas offer great snorkelling, sailing and swimming conditions.

Relaxed and unspoilt, Nevis is a remarkable destination. And with everything from restored plantation houses to swish resorts to choose from, the best places to stay on Nevis promise something truly special!
