The Borgo di Carpiano started life as far back as the 10th century, when it was a small hamlet with a castle. Later additions included a 17th century church which has now been converted into a library and drawing room and features outstanding original frescoes. The entire group of buildings has been carefully and tastefully restored and now provides elegant accommodation. Many of the rooms feature dark wooden floors, beamed ceilings and furniture, all of which is contrasted with stylish white fabrics and walls. The feel is simple yet sophisticated. Food is as locally sourced as possible - the bread is made on site and many of the vegetables grown in the garden. Cooking classes are available on request if you've grown bored of lounging by the infinity pool with a good book!

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Secluded location in the rolling Umbrian countryside. Completely immersed in nature. Only birds and the trickling falls of a stream can be heard throughout the property. Genuine and warm hospitality from friendly yet professional staff. Organic vegetable garden and high quality produce used in the preparation of all meals. Wide range of carefully selected wines. The beauty of our salt water infinity pool and the relaxation of our health treatments. Our guests enjoy the luxury of slow living. What is there to do in the area? Walking in the woods, horse riding, golf, cultural visits to historical mediaeval towns including Gubbio, Assisi and Perugia. What kind of breakfast do you offer? Our breakfast is unique. Every day a different selection of cheese and cured meats are offered, plus fresh juice, home made bread and cakes. We also include a la carte eggs in the room price. Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We serve lunch every day (we have a light proposal based mainly on salads and different carpaccio). For dinner we have a different tasting menu every night. We champion fresh ingredients, and menus change on a daily basis. We offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free alternatives on request. Which are your most popular room types, and why? All rooms are individual in style according to the original architecture of the building. Each guest has their own preference and this changes according to the seasons. Some rooms have terraces or gardens. What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? Our motto is "Un plug" .... Simplicity is the best and in the global world the Borgo is a little corner of tranquility with a different concept of luxury.
"It’s not difficult to fall head over heels in love with this other-worldly retreat tucked away in the Umbrian hills, run with true kindness and grace. It’s a luxury getaway for travellers in the know and remains Umbria’s best kept secret."
