About Rafina

The perfect place to start or finish an island-hopping holiday in Greece, the ferry port of Rafina is hugely popular with international travellers during the summer months. Only 20 minutes from Athens International Airport, Rafina is the gateway to many of the Cyclades’ most marvellous islands, including Mykonos, Paros, Andros and Ios. Early morning departures or late-night arrivals make booking a room at one of the best places to stay in Rafina very appealing!

Fishing boats bob alongside the ferries in Rafina’s harbour, where you’ll also find a plethora of excellent seafood restaurants. Take the whole family to build sandcastles on the town’s long sandy beach, or pick a perch at one of the cafés on the lively central square for coffee and pastries. Clamber up to the little Church of Agios Nikolaos to marvel at sunsets over the harbour in the evenings.

Further afield, the ancient Temple of Artemis Tavropolos, near Vravrona, beckons — as do the wines of the Domaine Papagiannakos vineyard, which offers excellent tours and tastings. Step back in time at the Marathon Archaeological Museum, or spend a day exploring the many wonders of Athens.   • Fly to Athens International Airport, and take a 20-minute taxi or bus ride to Rafina.

  • Expect hot summers, with temperatures reaching around 25 - 30°C between June and August, which is also peak season. For cooler weather travel in the shoulder season — April, May or late September — when you can also find some great hotel deals.
