About San Vincenzo
San Vincenzo is idyllically positioned on Tuscany’s Etruscan Coast, between Piombino and Livorno. Here there’s golden sand, and cobalt water on one side, and lush pine forests and olive groves on the other. For our Gurus San Vincenzo is a beautiful and historic pick, but for many it’s flat out a beach resort, and the accommodation options in San Vincenzo reflect that, with numerous seaside hotels hugging the beautiful coastline. However the best places to stay in San Vincenzo also include converted villas in the historic part of town, and a smattering of repurposed farmhouses and villas in the hills behind the town.
San Vincenzo’s blue flag beach, with its fine, golden sand, does deserve all the attention: it’s gorgeous, with large stretches of patrolled beach, and bathing, watersports, and hospitality businesses adding to the pristine environment and comfort for visitors. There also an historic tower overlooking the beach, and a collection of impressive fortifications and lookouts up and down the coastline, which were once defence against pirates, and certainly add to the exotic appeal. The port, once a trading port, is now popular with yachts-folk.
In addition to recommending San Vincenzo to sailors, beach-breakers, families, romantics and watersports enthusiasts, it's also a good option for walkers and naturalists: the Rimigliano Natural Reserve sits just behind the town, an area of 120 hectares of dunes and woods, home to all sorts of fascinating flora and fauna. The best places to stay in San Vincenzo make a great base for exploring the treasures of the Etruscan Coast, like the thermal springs at Venturina, and the region’s charming medieval towns. Elba is just off the coast. If you’re here for historic beauty you’ll have plenty to explore when it comes to architecture, art, archaeology; there's also a great variety of shops and places to eat and drink.
