About Azores

The Azores, an archipelago of nine volcanic islands in the mid-Atlantic, offers a pristine paradise for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts. The best places to stay in the Azores are spread across these diverse islands, each offering unique experiences - from the historic UNESCO-listed town of Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira to the traditional vineyard communities of Pico. Expect dramatic volcanic formations, including steaming vents, bubbling mud pools, and stunning crater lakes like the contrasting blues and greens of Setes Cidades, all surrounded by sparkling ocean waters.

The archipelago's natural wonders extend from mountain peaks to thermal springs, with outdoor activities to suit every interest. Visitors can hike Portugal's highest peak on Ilha do Pico, soak in the geothermal pools at Terra Nostra Gardens on São Miguel Island, or explore 15th-century vineyards on horseback. The best places to stay in the Azores promise access to both outdoor adventures and cultural experiences, with many properties offering guided hikes, or cultural experiences in traditional villages where visitors can sample local cuisine slow-cooked in volcanic soil.

Step beyond the islands' shores to discover a fascinating variety of marine life -- and water sports galore. Almost every coastal town offers whale watching tours, with different migratory species visiting the waters throughout the year. The conditions for sailing, surfing, and diving are also superb, with numerous marine reserves protecting underwater volcanic landscapes and rich marine ecosystems. An increasingly popular destination for travellers seeking an authentic and unspoiled Atlantic getaway, the Azores are fascinating -- and it's well worth booking your trip in advance!
