“This family-friendly hotel on the island’s north coast is a rare beast, pleasing to both aesthetically-minded grown-ups and water babies of all ages. Expect earthy tones, natural textures, sleek modern lines. Plus a stylish spa, fine-dining restaurant, a kids’ water park and two Olympic-length pools”

Hotel review

A collection of pale, glass-fronted blocks arranged on a hillside in north Crete, this resort echoes the palette of the surrounding landscape but is resolutely modern in design. Rooms make the most of the sea view – all feature some sort of outdoor space; many have private pools – with a pared-back look, rich in natural materials, that invites relaxation. Bathrooms are deconstructed, with spacious showers, Olive Era toiletries and in-room sinks.

Though there’s no direct beach access – a free shuttle bus reaches the one at sister hotel The Royal Blue in minutes – two enormous swimming pools surrounded by loungers and daybeds make up the lack. There’s also a children's pool and water park, plus a kids' club so parents can enjoy the pretty-in-pink spa and indoor-outdoor gym.

Families who spend a week here will also be glad of the varied dining options – from tasting menus at upscale Cretamos to mezze at village square-style Platia, via an endlessly varied buffet for breakfast and evening meals.
