Born in Hong Kong and raised across five continents, Saskia has long felt the pull of places new. Years of living in Vietnam, New Zealand, South Korea and Brazil sparked an ongoing curiosity about people, food, creativity and culture – and the magic that staying in a warm, characterful hotel can bring.

Saskia read History at Cambridge, before diving into projects that brought her joy – namely bookshops, startups, travel mags, and non-profits. A four-month road trip across Europe and extended travels in Southeast Asia preceded a move to Sri Lanka in 2017.

Saskia now splits her time between devouring books, penning pieces about the island, and curating the annual Galle Literary Festival, a fabulous four-day extravaganza of ideas in a centuries-old fortified town in southern Sri Lanka. Saskia has been Asia and Australasia Editor at The Hotel Guru since 2022, and continues to delight in discovering hotels around Sri Lanka, the Indian Ocean and beyond.
